My Review of Serenade by Emily Kiebel

About the Book:
Suddenly the voice she prized is now dangerously seductive.

Lorelei Clark’s only concern was her future as a classically trained soprano, that is, until the day her father was tragically killed. Shattered by his death, she hesitantly accepts an invitation from a mysterious aunt to visit her lavish oceanside home in Cape Cod. She quickly discovers that her aunt and the two women who live with her are harboring a frightening secret – they are sirens, terrifying mythical creatures responsible for singing doomed sailors to their deaths. Even more astounding, Lorelei is one of them.

In this new world where water comes alive at her touch and an ancient power pulses beneath the tide, the most important rule Lorelei must learn is that a siren never interferes with fate. When she breaks this rule by rescuing a handsome sailor who should have died at sea, the sirens vow she must finish the job or face grave consequences. Finding herself inexplicably attracted to him, she must fight to keep him safe from the others, even if it means risking her own life – and her heart – in the process.

My Review:
This isn't the normal type of book I would read.  I'd never heard about Sirens and I wasn't sure how this would work it's way into the story. Once I got past the slow start, I did really enjoy all the elements of this book.  There was a lot of suspense and a few on the edge of your seat moments.   Her characters were very well written and she always left me wanting more.  This is an interesting read!

Potters Bench from Pallets

Finally, here is a picture of the potters bench I made from pallets.  I looked over various designs/etc. and this is what my husband and I came up with!  I used a larger than normal pallet because I had a big space to fill out on my porch.  I also wanted to add a shelf on top to keep our speaker dock for music.  Although I did not take any pictures along the way when we made this, I am going to attempt another one and will make sure I do it this time.

My Kids' Art Display

So this is a project I am very excited about!  My girls are always making drawings and various artwork and we never have anywhere to display it.  I gathered some ideas from Pinterest and I decided to make my own "art display".  I had this old frame in the basement (it was a darker brown wood color) and I removed the photo, glass and backing off of it. I painted black on both sides and then distressed it with my good old palm sander.  I then stapled the chicken wire to the back and added the clothes pins to hang their various artwork!

This is a great project for kids that will keep them busy for hours!  You need to go to your local Home Depot, Lowes or any store that sells paint and pickup up some paint sample cards.  They come in many different colors and sizes, just pick the ones that catch your eye and you will trim it to size later.  Other items you will need include stickers, markers, ribbon, hole punch and paper trimmer (you can use scissors if you don't have a trimmer).  Take your paint sample card and trim it down to the size you want your bookmark.  Take your hole punch and make a hole at the top for your ribbon.  Let your kids decorate the bookmark with stickers or whatever they choose.  When they are done, put your ribbon through the hole and you have a one of a kind homemade bookmark!  My girls love giving these to family and friends.
